AmeriCorps NCCC-FEMA Corps Class 21 Team Leader Spotlight: Mike Daniel

Mike Daniel, from Rockwell, North Carolina is the team leader for Hickory 1in AmeriCorps NCCC- FEMA Corps Class 21. He arrived in Vinton on July 9 to start his 11-month service working with a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Hickory 1 is made up of seven people from across the country and they will serve together around the United States. AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20 Corps Member Spotlight: Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson, from Richmond, Virginia is a corps member for Maple 3 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. He arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start his 10-month service working with a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Maple 3 is made up of nine people from across the country and they will serve together around the Midwest. AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20 Corps Member Spotlight: Scott Bremer
Scott Bremer, from Atlanta, Georgia is serving on team Oak 7 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. He arrived in Vinton Februray11 to start his 10-month service term. Oak 7 is a team made up of eight people from across the country who will serve together across the Midwest.

AMES, Iowa (October 21, 2014) - The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University recognized its scholarship recipients for the 2014-15 academic year.
Area freshmen earn Central Presidential Scholarships
Area students earn presidential scholarships from Central College for their commitment to high academic achievement.
Caitlyn Conway of Blairstown is a recent graduate from Benton H S and is now a freshman at Central College.
Emily Dye of Newhall is a recent graduate from Benton H S and is now a freshman at Central College.
Hannah Miller of Keystone is a recent graduate from Benton H S and is now a freshman at Central College.

North Eden Willing Workers name new officers

The North Eden Willing Workers 4-H Club met Sunday, October 5th at 4:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton. A get-to-know activity was held before the meeting. The business meeting was opened at 5:00 with the pledges and roll call, which was "What is your favorite Halloween costume?" 26 members were present.
VS FFA members earn 1st in Dairy, Horse Judging
On September 11th, five Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members attended the FFA District Dairy Judging CDE. The members that participated in this event were Brittani Kim, Emily Howe, Amanda Burkey, Lucas Kalina, and Logan Grabin. These individuals did amazing while at the judging contest. Logan, not being on the team because he is only a 9th grader, received the highest score out of the five members that went.
Caitlyn Martin honored at U of Iowa Belin-Blank Center
Vinton-Shellsburg High School student Caitlin Martin, the daughter of Dave and Cindy Martin, was among the 500 students from Iowa and throughout the nation who were recently invited to be honored at The University of Iowa Belin-Blank Center's Recognition Ceremony. Additionally, recognized students were given the opportunity to honor a teacher they credited for having a profound influence on their lives. VFW Auxiliary helps with VSHS Operation Backpack project
The Vinton VFW Ladies Auxiliary supported Operation
Backpack by having Riley Ries come to our meeting
and presenting him with 60 new tooth brushes and 60
tubes of toothpaste. We also presented him with a
check and one of our members Donna Barnard also gave
him a check. We are glad to help support this great cause.
